Coach John Childress

John 'Coach' Weldon Childress
September 18, 1937  -  August 31, 2018
John Coach Weldon Childress passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 31, 2018. John was born in Huntsville, Alabama to William and Sue Childress. He graduated from Florence State University with a degree in Education and also received his Master of Education from Alabama A&M. He was a teacher and Coach in the Huntsville City School System for 20 years. He then began a career in the Electronics Distribution Business where he was a salesman, sales Manager, and General Manager. He was a member of the Madison County Sports Hall Of Fame. Coach impacted and influenced many lives wherever he was working, teaching, or coaching.
John is survived by his wife Jane Childress; son, Johnny Childress; daughter, Jana Caudle; stepdaughters, Karon Simms, Michelle Williams, and Susann Denson; brother, William Childress; sister, Sonya Heaney; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8 at Latham United Methodist Church, 109 Weatherly Rd, Huntsville, AL, 35803. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will immediately follow at the church.

Coach Childress was one of the men in my life that gave me the tools to be successful, gave me drive, taught me how to crash head on into life's issues and emerge, if not victorious, at least better and wiser for the experience. I loved that man. Thanks for everything Coach.
